IS PEARLAND BASEBALL A NEW BASEBALL CLUB?
Pearland Baseball is part of Shadow Creek Sports and in partnership with Shadow Creek Sports Baseball. The league is open to players in and around the surrounding areas of Pearland. Pearland Baseball is not affiliated with Pearland Little League.
IS THE LEAGUE COMPETITIVE?
The League strives to be a developmental/instructional league. We attempt to balance teams (all ages and skills) so scores are close and teams compete. Although there are no official standings, players do count runs and want to win. But we emphasize to coaches, parents, and players, that learning the game, developing baseball knowledge / skills, and enjoying the game are most important.
WHEN WILL TEAMS BE ANNOUNCED?
We try to announce teams by September 1 for fall season and March 1 for spring season.
HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED?
In our T-Ball, Softball and Coach Pitch Divisions, teams are formed by the Baseball Director, using the following guiding principles:
- Returners from the previous season remain on the assigned team
- Requests are evaluated and granted where possible
- Players are put together who live in the same area or go to the same school, when possible
- Teams are evaluated to ensure each have a range of ages and skills
- Returners from the previous season remain on the assigned team
- Requests are considered, but must be evaluated by all Coaches at the Draft and approved by the League President
- If there are NEW teams to the Division, they are given the first set of Draft picks to help start off with a skilled & balanced team
WHY DO RETURNING PLAYERS REMAIN ON THE SAME ASSIGNED TEAM?
This is a benefit that parents like, we believe this differentiates us from other Leagues, and it rewards players for continuing to play season after season. Players enjoy playing with the same teammates and Coaches enjoy the consistency in developing the players. A parent can request their player to be moved to another team if desired.
WHO WILL BE OUR TEAM COACH?
In our T-Ball, Softball and Coach Pitch Divisions, Parents are expected to work together to coach all players. It's best to have two parents to share the coaching. If no one wants to coach, you can assign a different parent to coach each week. Our Baseball Director can provide mentoring and video links to practice ideas.
In our Kid Pitch Divisions, Parents can request during Registration to be a Head Coach or an Assistant Coach. Coaches are assigned by the League President and Baseball Director.
ARE THERE UMPIRES DURING GAMES?
Only in our Coach Pitch and Kid Pitch Divisions do we have Umpires call games.
HOW OFTEN DO TEAMS PRACTICE?
Baseball is a game of if/then/else, and requires practice to really learn what to do when.
- In our T-Ball Division, teams typically practice 1 hour a week.
- In our Softball and Coach Pitch Divisions, teams typically practice 1-2 hours a week.
- In our Kid Pitch Divisions, teams typically practice 1-2 times a week for 1-2 hours.
IF WE LIVE EAST OF 288 or SOUTH OF 518, ARE WE GUARANTEED TO BE ON A TEAM THAT PRACTICES IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD?
That is our goal; however, this depends on number of signups. We strive to form teams according to location while also trying to balance teams according to ability. Grouping teams by neighborhood and general location will allow for easy practices. This is our goal but we cannot guarantee 100%.
CAN TEAMS PRACTICE AT THE SPORTS PARK?
The League reserves a limited number of time slots at the Sports Park; however, teams are encouraged to use fields in the SCR/Pearland area for additional practice times.
I CURRENTLY PLAY ANOTHER SPORT; CAN I STILL PLAY BASEBALL?
Yes, absolutely. Games are 1 specific night each week. For example, Shadow Creek Sports Soccer plays on different days/times than Shadow Creek Sports / Pearland Baseball.
WHY DO WE PLAY ON EASTER WEEKEND?
School spring break schedule forces us to schedule 8 weeks straight from March 23 to May 11. This give us 2 rainout weekends, with the 2nd being Memorial day. If we break for Easter, then only Memorial day is the rainout weekend, and more people travel Memorial day than Easter. Now AISD school is finished before Memorial day, so even more families leave town. If we start earlier, then uniform handout goes to February 24 instead of March 17. Most prefer an 8 week season rather than 11 weeks.
If 80% of your team will not be at the game, reach out to a member of the other team and let them know. If there is no rainout this season, May 18 will be a great make up day, but you will need to arrange with the other team.
